Creating necklaces, Creating realities
Houston, 2009

In his art studio await
endless numbers of
beads that have hung in various combinations
on warm skin
ancient coins encased in heavy silver
delicate sacred gems
All awaiting
To find their way
Onto the neck or wrist of their next lover

He takes me on home tours of these objects
I learn the organization
I touch them
I share space with them
I fall into them

“Now create.  Anything here is yours to work with.”

Isn’t that just it?
Isn’t that exactly what we have with our lives?
Our realities?
I have everything to work with
And it is up to me to choose my reality
Choose my path
Choose my components
Choose
Choose

Fucking choices

What I learn over and over
Is that there is no one reality
Each one of us
Completely creates our own reality
It may appear as if we interact
in the same space
Yet we do not
Each of us lives not only our own life
But lives our own reality
And not only our own reality
But variations of endless possibilities
within that one reality

And in order for me, for you,
for each one of us
To come into fullness, oneness
We must walk away
From some of our stories
From some of our baggage
From some of what we consider our essential self
Perhaps from all of it
In order to become
Our essential self

Part of my struggle
Is being given everything
Over and over
And not knowing what to do
With that everything

How to start just one necklace
When I can make endless necklaces
From all the endless pieces?

“To those to whom much is given
From those
Much is expected.”

He says in our morning chat
As I lie in my room in yet another stunning home
Surrounded by art

I taste the hugeness of what is expected.
