Sunset on the Edge of the World
California Coast, 2008

My sister and I
Drive south along the Pacific
She’s about to drop out of my life
To live with fish farmers in Bosnia
“I want you to remember this moment,” I say.  “My love for you in this moment.”
I turn up the music, the windows are down, with the ocean air swirling in the car
The cliffs drop down thousands of feet to the water
“NOW! This moment sissy.”
High ocean cliffs make me crave suicide and love in equal amounts
I pull off into a look-out
Turn up the music
“Let’s dance,” and we jump out of the car
Dancing on the edge of rock
Alive, together.
